A natural gemstone is very
difficult to spot. However, we know that gemstone are nowadays predominately
used for jewelry such as ring, necklace, pendant and bracelet. Instead of that
a natural gemstone is found in rock and mines so they have a dull appearance.
In order to enhance the appearance of original gemstone few inclusions are injected
into the stone. In order to enhance the appearance of the gemstone. These
inclusions can vary from heat treatment up to waxing/oiling, fracture filling
etc. We will read in detail about each
one in next paragraph.
Heat Treatment: It is very rare to find a gemstone without any
inclusion. However inclusion is not considered to be harmful if it is performed
to nurture the quality of a gemstone. In order to sharp the color
characteristics and appearance characteristics of gemstone, heat treatment is performed
on the gemstone considering the fact that gemstone does not lose its
properties, It is heated on high temperature at 1500 c to 1800 c to enhance
beauty and color brilliance of these stone. While heating these gemstone a proper
care must be taken other-wise all the positive properties of stone will wash
away. Heating treatment perform on the stone with diffusing beryllium and
irradiation to enhance appearance of the stone.
Beryllium Treatment: To increase the color quality and
transparency of the gemstone .Diffusion of beryllium is also one of those
technique which is used to enhance the color quality and transparency of the
stone. Beryllium in Be2+ form has a very small ion; it is therefore capable of
penetrating deep into the sapphire, via diffusion, during heat treatment. it is
very hard locate the impurity which has been added into stone. To identify the
inclusion analysis of stone can be done through magnifier which is only able to
find or capture the beryllium.
Waxing And Oiling Treatment Of The Gemstone: In
order to enhance the appearance of the gemstone all the fractures of the
gemstone are filled with waxing and oiling treatment to increase the appearance
of the stone. Waxing and oiling technology is primarily used in Emerald
gemstone to enhances its appearance with filling holes and fractures.When Buying Gemstone keep these treatments in mid, because all stones are somehow treated.
Dyeing: It is
the other technique which is used for gemstone to enhance their look and
appearance. In this technique all the rough patches of the gemstone are dyed in
such a manner so that they look same alike the original gemstone.
Radiation: This is an another technique which is used to
enhance the appearance characteristics of the gemstones. On The blue topaz
stone basically this treatment has been
performed to enhance its color characteristics.
